Students use their classroom computers throughout the day.  As an independent learning center, the computer is an effective way to reinforce concepts, allow for creativity, and connect students to the world.  Students have expressed some of their favorite choices while using the computer.  Kindergartners love to practice their ABCs at Starfall.  First graders enjoy hearing stories read to them at Tumble Books.  Second graders use Window Media player to listen to and sing along with the Mondo songs and chants.  Third graders sharpen their knowledge about topics like Space when watching a movie from United Streaming and our fourth graders use Kidspiration to create documents that demonstrate their learning related to various topics.  We are happy that we have provided many choices for learning and creativity at the classroom computer stations.  This year we will implement a 1-to-1 laptop project with our 6th graders.  According to research "students will routine access to notebook computers score higher in writing assessments, demonstrate better analytical skills, collaborate more, and have lower absenteeism and dropout rates."  With the district vision of graduating all students with the choice of attending college without remediation, we believe this project aligns with that vision.
