DID YOU KNOW?

Aurora Public Schools implemented the new truancy reduction program two years ago.

Colorado State Law requires children to attend school regularly and on time. State law also requires that we monitor the attendance of all students and report those who are truant to the District Court. Remember that truant students are those who have excessive absences and/or tardies. Every elementary school student is required to attend school for 968 hours each year.

Is your child attending school everyday and on time? Here is some general information that will help keep your child from being truant:

If a student must be absent from school a parent must call 303-364-6878 and provide the following information:

Student's name
Student's grade
Student's teacher
Reason for absence
Number of days absence
Your name
Date, time you are calling

An absence can be excused if it is an illness if your child has a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, strep throat, vomiting, diarrhea, constant cough, rash or a contagious disease such as chicken pox, it is advisable to keep them home. Excessive absences reported as illness can be excused if they have been verified and/or approved by the administrator.

Doctor and Dentist Appointments
Parents are encouraged to schedule doctor and dentist appointments outside of school hours.

Tardiness, Late Arriving Students
When students are late for school, they need to first come to the office and obtain a pass before going into the classroom. The parent should either bring the child inside or send a note with the child explaining the reason for the tardiness.

Change of Address or Phone Number
It is very important that parents maintain up-to-date address, telephone number and emergency contact information for the child's/children's school office records. Please inform the school immediately if you have a change of telephone number. Notify Central Admission Office of any other change of information during the school year.

Las Escuelas Públicas de Aurora han implementado el nuevo programa para reducir las faltas sin justificación valida.

La ley del estado de Colorado requiere que todo estudiante matriculado en las escuelas asista a la escuela diariamente y a tiempo. La ley del estado también requiere que nuestro Distrito observe, documente y reporte a la corte todo estudiante con suficientes problemas en inasistencia regular y/o llegadas tardes a la escuela. El requisito para todo estudiante al nivel de primaria es asistir a la escuela 968 horas cada año.

Si un estudiante necesita faltar a la escuela, favor de seguir éste proceso
El padre o tutor debe llamar a la escuela al 303-364-6878 y proveer la siguiente información:

Nombre del estudiante
El grado escolar
Nombre de la maestra
Razón por la que falta
Número de días de ausencia
Nombre del padre o madre que llama
Fecha en la que usted hace la llamada

Una falta puede ser justificada si es una enfermedad si su niño tiene la temperatura de 100 grados o más, infección en la garganta, vómito, diarrea, tos constante, reacción alérgica o enfermedad contagiosa como la viruela, se recomienda que el niño se quede en casa. Demasiadas faltas reportadas como enfermedades pueden ser justificadas si son verificadas y aprobadas por un administrador de la escuela.

Citas al Médico o Dentista
Se les pide a los padres que hagan las citas con el doctor o dentista fuera del horario escolar.

Los estudiantes que lleguen tarde
Cuando los estudiantes lleguen tarde a la escuela, tienen que pasar por la oficina para obtener un pase antes de ir a su salón de clases. Los padres deben de entrar a la escuela con su niño o enviar una nota con su niño explicando la razón de llegar tarde.

Cambio de Dirección
Es muy importante que los padres informen a la oficina de escuela de su hijo de la dirección, número telefónico y contacto de emergencia actualizados. Por favor notifique a la escuela inmediatamente si hay algún cambio telefónico y a la Oficina central de Admisiones de cualquier otro cambio de información durante el año.
